Now that winter has come to an end, it’s time to take advantage of the warmer weather and use the sunny spring days to inspect your property and take care of any routine maintenance. As you prepare your home for the next season, don’t forget to knock out these crucial tasks.
Winter weather can be rough on your roof. When spring rolls around, carefully inspect your roof and be on the lookout for any wear and tear and missing or peeling shingles.
While you’re up there inspecting your roof, check on your gutters and downspouts, too. Make sure all leaves and debris are cleared out and water flows correctly.
Winter weather can also wreak havoc on caulk and weather stripping. Do an inspection and make any necessary repairs. Doing this will not only keep pests out, but it’ll also keep cool air in during those hot summer months.
Before you host your first cookout of the season, check your deck for deteriorating, loose or broken boards. Unfortunately, your deck will wear out after a few years, but if you keep up with inspections and maintenance, your deck will look better and last a lot longer.
With summer approaching, it’s good to be sure that all air conditioning units are up-to-date with maintenance and in good working order. No one wants to discover their A/C doesn’t work during the first heat wave of the summer.
Spend some time outside working on your yard. Clean up any debris that may have accumulated over the winter, put down new mulch and plant new flowers. Also, check that your watering and irrigation systems work properly.
The continuous freezing and thawing can take a toll on your driveway, walkways and sidewalks. Patch or fill the holes and cracks as soon as possible.
After your last fire of the winter season, remove any logs and check the exterior for damage. You clean the surrounding areas in your home- but leave cleaning the interior to a professional.
